Distant Lightning Muddy's The Water

Interesting trip to say the least. The people were out in droves on a river we have never seen anybody fishing. We bumped into multiple groups and the first fish of the day had somebody else's hopper in its mouth! A sign of how the trip would go...

We still caught plenty of fish though and the hoppers and stimi's were treating us right.

Dalt battles a good one in Raparia.

Once we got to camp we noticed the clouds were forming and lightning ensued. It never rained on us but it certainly did somewhere up the drainage. More on that in a minute...

The light was awesome and I snapped a few good photos.

Love this spot. Great place to camp.

We were up at 6:30 and we started fishing hard. Dalt was on fire in this hole and probably nailed 5-6 great cutty's on a giant hopper.

Right around 11:00 the water started changing color and went completely muddy within 10 minutes.

We tried a nymph rig for a bit but decided to cut our losses and get back to the truck.

As we drove out the canyon we caught up with the mud front and a few miles down the water was still crystal clear. It's amazing that a storm so far away effected the water clarity where we were. It must have been right at the top of the far reaches of the drainage.

One more.

In the words of Dalton "I think we should make our hay on this river in the spring and the fall"

I think he is right. We always seem to catch the big ones during those time periods.
Thanks,
Chris Giles
